The Subclass 836 Orphan Relative Visa is the onshore equivalent of the 116. It allows orphaned children who are already in Australia to apply for permanent residence from within Australia while being cared for by an Australian citizen or permanent resident relative.

The circumstances and criteria are essentially the same as the 116, with the key difference being that the child must be in Australia at the time of application.
