Australian Partner Visas
For spouses and de facto partners of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens. Choose onshore, offshore, or fiancé pathways.
Partner Visa Pathways
Australia’s partner visa program allows the partners of Australian citizens, permanent residents, and eligible New Zealand citizens to live in Australia. There are three main pathways depending on whether you are in Australia, offshore, or engaged to be married. All partner visas are two-stage: a temporary visa is granted first, followed by a permanent visa after the relationship is assessed again.

Onshore Partner Visa (Temporary)
Already in Australia? The 820 is the temporary first stage of the onshore partner visa. Full work and study rights from grant date while your permanent 801 is assessed.

Onshore Partner Visa (Permanent)
The permanent second stage of the onshore partner visa pathway. Granted after 2+ years to 820 holders whose relationship is confirmed as genuine and ongoing.

Offshore Partner Visa (Temporary)
Applying from outside Australia? The 309 temporary visa lets you travel to and live in Australia while your permanent 100 is being assessed.

Offshore Partner Visa (Permanent)
The permanent second stage of the offshore partner visa pathway. Granted after 2+ years to 309 holders whose relationship is confirmed genuine and ongoing.

Prospective Marriage Visa
Engaged to an Australian citizen? Travel to Australia and marry within 9 months, then transition to the 820/801 onshore partner visa pathway.
