Subclass 820Onshore Partner Visa (Temporary)
The temporary onshore partner visa for partners of Australian citizens, PRs, or eligible NZ citizens already in Australia. The 820 is the first stage leading to the permanent 801.
Overview
The Subclass 820 Onshore Partner Visa is a temporary visa for the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who is currently living in Australia. It allows you to remain in Australia lawfully while your application is being processed and grants full work and study rights.
The 820 is the first stage of the combined 820/801 application. Once lodged, both the temporary 820 and permanent 801 are considered together. After two years from lodgement (or sooner if eligible), your application is automatically reassessed for the permanent Subclass 801 stage without a new application.
