Skilled Visa Pathways
Australia’s General Skilled Migration (GSM) program uses a points-based system to select skilled workers who can contribute to the Australian economy. Most pathways also require a positive skills assessment. There are also employer-sponsored and regional pathways for those who don’t meet the points threshold for independent migration.
Points-Tested Visas

Skilled Independent Visa
Permanent visa. No employer or state sponsor required. Based entirely on your points score.
Skilled Nominated Visa
Permanent visa with state or territory nomination, adding 5 bonus points.
Skilled Work Regional Visa
Provisional regional visa with a pathway to permanent residence via the 191.
Permanent Residence (Regional)
Permanent visa for 491 and 494 holders who have completed 3 years of regional residence.
