The Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) allows individuals to visit Australia for tourism, business purposes, or to visit family for periods of 3, 6, or 12 months.

Types of Visitor Visas
Tourist Stream (Apply Outside Australia)
This visa allows individuals to visit Australia as tourists, to go on a cruise, or to visit family and friends. It is not suitable for business or medical purposes.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Be outside Australia when applying and when the decision is made.
- Be a genuine visitor and have sufficient funds for the trip.
- You cannot work on this visa.
Tourist Stream (Apply in Australia)
This visa is for those already in Australia, enabling them to visit family or friends, travel as tourists, or take a cruise. It excludes business or medical purposes.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Be in Australia when applying and when the decision is made.
- Show genuine visitor intent and financial capability to support your stay.
- No work is allowed.
Each family member must apply separately, and healthcare insurance is strongly recommended.
Business Visitor Stream
The Business Visitor stream of the Visitor visa (subclass 600) allows you to visit Australia for specific business purposes. With this visa, you can:
- Make general business or employment enquiries.
- Negotiate, enter into, or review business contracts.
- Attend conferences, trade fairs, or seminars without receiving payment.
- Participate in official government visits or undertake tourist activities.
However, this visa does not permit you to work for Australian businesses, provide services, or sell directly to the public.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this visa, you must:
- Be outside Australia at the time of application and decision.
- Intend to visit for approved business activities.
- Meet health and character requirements.
- Maintain adequate health insurance for your stay.
Approved Destination Status Stream
The Approved Destination Status stream of the Visitor visa (subclass 600) is designed for citizens of specified regions in China visiting Australia as part of an organised tour through an approved travel agent. With this visa, you can:
- Enter Australia with your approved tour group.
- Participate in activities included in your tour.
- Depart Australia with your group before the visa expires.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this visa, you must:
- Be a citizen of the People’s Republic of China.
- Apply as part of an organised tour with an approved travel agent.
- Be in China when applying and when a decision is made on your application.
- Meet health and character requirements.
- Have adequate health insurance to cover your stay.
Frequent Traveller Stream
The Frequent Traveller stream of the Visitor visa (subclass 600) is designed for citizens from the People’s Republic of China, Brunei, Cambodia, the Philippines, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam who frequently visit Australia for tourism or business activities. This visa allows you to travel to Australia as often as you like within the visa’s validity, with specific conditions on your stay duration.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this visa, you must:
- Be a citizen of one of the eligible countries: People’s Republic of China, Brunei, Cambodia, Philippines, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, or Timor Leste.
- Apply from outside Australia when lodging application and when a decision is made.
- Visit only for tourism, business visitor activities, or to meet family and friends.
- Meet health and character requirements.
- Comply with visa conditions, such as not staying more than 12 months in any 24-month period.
Sponsored Family Stream
The Sponsored Family stream of the Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) allows individuals to visit family in Australia for tourism, including seeing relatives, cruising, or other non-business purposes. It permits a stay of up to three months for short-term study or training, though a student visa is recommended for longer study durations.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Sponsored Family stream visa, you must meet the following requirements:
- Must be sponsored by an eligible family member living in Australia.
- Not work while holding this visa.
- The primary reason for visiting Australia must be for tourism, visiting family or friends, or participating in a cruise.
- Can study or train for up to three months, but this should not be your primary reason for travel.
- Must apply for this visa from outside Australia.
- Must comply with all visa conditions, including not overstaying your visa period.
- Cannot include family members in your application; each family member must apply separately.
